I can't believe it's been 8 days already! I think I'm finally feeling comfortable with the culture, the people, and my surroundings here, and it feels nice. I've been so lucky to have this awesome opportunity to be here, and I want to thank everyone supporting me and helping me get this far. THANK YOU!!!
It's interesting how animals around the world "say" different things. We were sitting at the table after dinner, and somehow came upon the topic of animal sounds....."In America, what does a cat say?" We went back and forth and heard their Japanese animal sounds, and we'd tell them the American ones. We were laughing so hard...then they wanted me to do the elephant one, and I refused. ;)

Laughter is not only the best medicine - it also bridges worlds.
Hey, you actually said "Good night" the right way! :D sooo...do cats really make different sounds there?;)
Lauren - I'm just getting caught up on your posts and wanted to drop a quick comment. Its great to see that your homestay family has been such a great match. It takes me back to being an exchange student with a family in Germany when I was 16 (about 20 years ago ;)). Even though the father could speak little English, he did not have a son of his own and went out of his way to treat me special and labored to use as few words as he could come up with. I did the same and we laughed just like you and your family. Its an important lesson that "people are people wherever you go" and we all have more alike then we have differences. Most people would be too afraid to go to a different country and do what you have done. I'm very proud.
Enjoy your time in Japan and keep up with the posts ! We all miss you a lot (well maybe not the 3hr practice sessions!).
Love , Dad
